Apple Oat Caramel Squares (Printable Version)

# What You’ll Need:

01 - 1 1/4 cups regular flour (175g).
02 - 1 cup old-fashioned oats (84g).
03 - 3/4 cup packed brown sugar, light or dark variety (150g).
04 - 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
05 - 1/4 teaspoon salt.
06 - 10 tablespoons melted unsalted butter (140g).
07 - 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (6g).
08 - 2 1/2 cups chopped and peeled apples (300g).
09 - 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice.
10 - 1/4 cup white sugar (50g).
11 - 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
12 - 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder (12g).
13 - 1/2 cup gooey salted caramel sauce.

# Steps To Make It:

01 - Get your oven going at 350°F and put parchment paper in an 8-inch square baking dish.
02 - Stir together flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
03 - Pour in the melted butter and vanilla, then stir until everything's combined.
04 - Take out 3/4 cup of the mixture for later and keep it cold.
05 - Push the rest of the dough into your pan and bake it for 14-16 minutes until it's golden brown.
06 - Take the crust out and let it cool down for 15 minutes.
07 - Toss your diced apples with the lemon juice in a bowl.
08 - Mix white sugar, cinnamon, and starch together, then stir into the apple mixture.
09 - Spread the apple mix over your cooled crust and drizzle 1/4 cup of caramel on top.
10 - Break up the cold dough you saved and scatter it over everything.
11 - Put it back in the oven for 40-42 minutes until the top looks golden and crisp.
12 - Let it cool all the way, then pop it in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up.
13 - Cut into squares and dribble the leftover caramel over the top.
